UNION CITY, NJ MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG AND WEAPONS OFFENSES

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of MERVIN MENIER (DOB: 7/13/1972; single; dog walker) of 314 3rd Street, Union City, NJ on drug and weapon offenses. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
On October 18, 2022, an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force revealed that MERVIN MENIER was transporting bulk shipments of narcotics through Bergen County. During this investigation, a search was conducted on his vehicle in Carlstadt, NJ. That search revealed a sophisticated, electronically operated hidden compartment that was discovered in the rear floor of MEINER’s vehicle and which contained an AK-47 style assault rifle, multiple high-capacity magazines for the assault rifle, numerous boxes of ammunition, and approximately one-half kilo of cocaine. MENIER was arrested at the scene of the search.
MERVIN MENIER was charged with first-degree possession of over 5 ounces of cocaine with the intent to distribute, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5b(1); second-degree possession of an assault rifle, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5f; second-degree possession of a firearm during a CDS offense, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1a; second-degree certain persons not to have weapons, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1); and fourth-degree possession of high capacity magazines, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3j. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
