Press Releases << VIRGINIA MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 40-year-old DAVID PERSAUD of Woodbridge, VA on charges of sexual assault. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley. 

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in the past.  An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that DAVID PERSAUD sexually assaulted the juvenile in Englewood, NJ, on multiple occasions in 2003 when the child was between the ages of 13 and 18. 

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, DAVID PERSAUD was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4).  On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, alongside officers from the Prince William County (VA) Police Department, located and arrested PERSAUD at his residence in Woodbridge, VA. PERSAUD was remanded to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center awaiting extradition to Bergen County, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department and the Prince William County Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
