Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of STEVE R. SHELLEY (DOB: 02/27/1973; divorced; unemployed) of Wood Ridge, NJ on aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Wood-Ridge Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael O’Donnell.

On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, the Wood-Ridge Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood-Ridge Police Department revealed that STEVE R. SHELLEY sexually assaulted a child who was between the ages of 13 and 16 on multiple occasions in Wood-Ridge, NJ.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, STEVE R. SHELLEY was arrested in Paramus, NJ, and charged with third-degree aggravated sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a; and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). SHELLEY was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing scheduled for August 31, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Wood-Ridge Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
