Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information regarding the investigation into a fatal vehicle fire that occurred on Campbell Avenue in Woodcliff Lake, NJ on Saturday, April 18, 2026. This joint investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department, under the direction of Chief Stephen Regula.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, at approximately 12:08 p.m., the Woodcliff Lake Police Department and the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department responded to a serious vehicle fire in the driveway of a private residence on Campbell Avenue in Woodcliff Lake. During fire suppression efforts, first responders located 85-year-old Raymond F. Stupienski, Jr. outside the vehicle near the rear entrance to the residence. Mr. Stupienski was airlifted to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.

Following their initial response, the Woodcliff Lake Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad and requested assistance from the Bergen County Arson Task Force. Detectives and Arson Investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene, initiating a joint investigation in conjunction with the Woodcliff Lake Police Department, Woodcliff Lake Fire Department, and the Woodcliff Lake Fire Prevention Bureau. The investigation revealed that the fire was not suspicious in nature.

Moreover, he thanks the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department and the Woodcliff Lake Fire Prevention Bureau for their assistance in this investigation. In addition, Prosector Musella thanks and recognizes the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and the various first responders from nearby police and fire departments that provided mutual aid during this incident. Additionally, he thanks the Hackensack Fire Department for its participation in the Bergen County Arson Task Force.
